Vastu & Architecture

Today it is the age of specialization and architecture has metamorphosed into several disciplines. This has resulted in a fragmented approach and a disruption of the age-old traditions. This insular thinking is due to present changing socio-economic structure-from rural to urban from social to economic and from community to individualistic.

Architecture has usually not been able to recognize the social, economic, environmental and other changes that are taking place in the country.

There is a widespread restlessness and lack of psychological fulfilment, in spite of higher level of physical comfort. The people are searching, for the alternatives to many problems in a rather simplistic manner and adopting geometric patterns codes of so called Vastu.

However, it has another side also. The architecture is in the process of precipitation and there is a strong urge to relate architecture to metaphysical and psychic experience. With a renewed interest in the heritage of Vastu, the scholars and architects are studying and exploring the traditional Indian literature.

This concern of architecture demands an integral vision of function, climate, technology, economy, social symbols, religion and rituals. It is necessary to evolve a process of planning and design which will be suitable to the context of nature, people and time.

Children and grownups have their own physical characteristics, the cycle of bio-energy, which corresponds to the structure and positioning of the place where they live.

The point stressed here is, that there is an inherent relationship between the human anatomy, human activities and Vastu Shastra The ancient science of architecture.

Relation of Vastushastra and Architecture today is same as stating importance of Arogya in present day medical science or importance of Neeti/Dharma in today's law.
